Tomorrow I turn 62, and this birthday feels a little different because I realized something that honestly stopped me in my tracks: I have now maintained my ideal weight for 31 years—exactly half my life. And considering the first 31 years included dieting, binge eating, bulimia, smoking, starting over, and a whole lot of wondering, “What is wrong with me?”… that feels pretty remarkable.

So in this week’s birthday episode, I’m peeling back those layers and sharing what 31 years of maintenance has actually taught me. Because the thing I’m most grateful for today isn’t simply that I released 40 pounds and kept it off. It’s that I released the struggle—and weight is no longer the main character in my life
